Kon-Tiki Commemorative Mug - Tikiland Trading Company Edition - by THOR
aka Kon-Tiki Raft Mug in 15 collections
In 1947, a journey across the great Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands took place on a rustic, hand crafted, raft led by Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl. With a raft named after the Inca god "Viracocha", the brave crew set out for an adventure of a lifetime! Heyerdahl believed that people from South America could have, by sail, reached Polynesia during pre-Colombian times. His aim in launching the "Kon-Tiki" expedition was meant to prove that. This mug version is sculpted by a different "THOR" you all may know (Tom Thordarson).
Tikiland Trading Co. took over the production of Thor’s in-house produced Kon-Tiki Commemorative Mug. Thor made minor tweaks to the size and color of the mug, which are hardly noticeable from the mug that Thor originally produced (waves now appear more green and less blue for instance). These limited edition mugs are first being sold to the people waiting on Thor’s original 2019 waiting list. Only a small number of these mugs were produced by Thor in-house (which were sold in 2019).
This edition of the Kon-Tiki mug was released in the fall of 2022. The 75th Anniversary Kon-Tiki Commemorative Set from Tikiland Trading Co. also includes a drink recipe card for a rum based “Raroia-Noku”. Tikiland also included a signed and matted print and and COA both signed by Thor. Cost was $245 and a $5 deposit.
